ABOUT ALISTAIR
Alistair is a director and theatre maker who loves creating abstract, socially driven work that sparks conversation and invites people to look at the world a little differently. He is drawn to theatre that feels bold, curious and a bit unconventional, where visual language, movement and atmosphere sit right alongside text. He enjoys building worlds that let audiences lean in, question what they’re seeing and connect with ideas that aren’t always easy to talk about.
He trained as an MFA Director at Edinburgh Napier University, mentored by Mark Thomson, the longest running Artistic Director of the Lyceum Theatre. Working with him had a huge influence on how he approaches directing. It taught him to trust his instincts, embrace experimentation and hold space for genuine collaboration in the rehearsal room.
Before stepping into directing, he spent many years in performance. He has around fifteen years of acting experience, along with ten years in musical theatre. That background plays a big role in the way he works now. He understands what performers need, how vulnerable the process can be and how important it is to feel supported and creatively free. Because of that, he focuses on building a room where everyone feels encouraged to explore, play and take risks without pressure.
At the heart of everything he does is the belief that theatre brings people together and helps us understand each other better. Whether he’s devising with an ensemble, developing new writing or reimagining existing work, he wants the result to feel alive, authentic and meaningful.
Alistair is one of the company directors at Blether Street Ltd, a Theatre, Film, and TV production company based in Glasgow.
